ST GEORGE'S YOUTH CLUB REPORT

St George's Youth Club had an exciting and varied summer programme despite the dreadful weather. We normally rely on Tony and Jane's garden and pool for a lot of our summer entertainment but this year that was not really possible.

In anticipation of the forthcoming world cup we had a Soiree Française (French evening), went swimming, had a night treasure hunt round QE Forest, went ten pin bowling, and had our traditional weekend camp at Glendene (luckily the weather held out for this one).

We took an active part helping on several of the stalls at the summer fete and at our own stall with our newly made roll a penny table.

In June we went down to the New Forest for a weekend at Fordingbridge, kind thanks to Fordingbridge Church and particularly to Rosemary's mother and father, Peter and Eileen Oads who helped out with all matters concerning the use of the Fordingbridge Hall. Arriving on the Friday evening we had a games evening; on the Saturday we went on a marathon bike ride through the New Forest, stopping at the only "pub" for lunch, and had fish and chips in the evening followed by games in the Glebe Field. On Sunday we attended the morning service before going to Moors Country Park for the day. Enormous thanks are due to Colin and Rosemary for organising this weekend.

Our final event was a party at Jane and Tony's. Again the weather was unkind and only three hardy souls managed a swim. Very sadly we had to say goodbye and thanks to Colin and Rosemary who are taking a well earned break from Youth Club activities, having spent five years as Youth Leaders. Its not really goodbye as we know they will want to be involved in several evenings and they have promised to help out in times of crisis (when isn't there one!). A presentation was made, and also to Chloe who won the "design a poster" competition.

Sadly also we say goodbye to Ian Thatcher who has decided to leave the Club at the age of 16 as he has many other commitments. Ian has been a loyal and helpful member of the club and we will miss his steady influence and enthusiasm. Please keep in touch Ian. As always we are looking to increase our membership so if anyone knows of anyone over 11 who might benefit from membership please let Jane or Tony know.
