The terrible terrorist events in America have shocked us all, and we can only pray that the President of the United States and its Allies, will be given wise counsel and great caution in their decisions during these coming months. There has been world peace for over 50 years and those who remember the slaughter of the two world wars in the 20th century, will not want this awful event to turn into something worse at the beginning of the 21st century. It is essential we keep those who lead the nations in our daily prayers and ask Almighty God to guide them in whatever decisions they may make. It so happens that during this month we shall be observing One World Week (21st to 28th October). It's main priority is to bring together local people to act on global issues. It aims to: 1) Build a movement of globally aware and active citizens. 2) Make an impact on decision makers - locally, nationally and internationally. "One World Week" is an agency of the Churches Together in Britain and Ireland and a member of the Development Education Association. A week of prayer proceeds the OWW each year and United Nations Day (24th October) falls within the week. In our area a local event has been organised each year for over twenty years, and this year it is the turn of our own church at St George's to host the main event on Thursday 25th October, at 7.30.pm with a service in church followed by an exhibition in the Church Hall and a talk by Bev Duckworth of the World Development Movement. Do make every effort to come along. Your prayers are needed in the struggle to share our concerns about justice and inequality in our country and across the globe. In addition your thoughts and ideas on how to more effectively spread this message, and to spare some time in doing it. With my blessing and prayers as always, Your priest and friend.
