Mothers’ Union Notes

Baptist Womens Fellowship

On Tuesday 23rd May we were invited to the Baptist Women’s Fellowship “Songs of Praise”.

The service was held in their church hall, with a piano accompaniment. There were lots of hymns (some completely new to me) interspersed with prayers and readings.

Following this, a tea of scones, jam and cream with mugs of tea were served.

A lovely afternoon.

Wave of Prayer

As the date for our annual Wave of Prayer service was (as usual) during the Waterlooville Music Festival, we moved the venue down the road - into my lounge.

Entitled “Faith in Action” we were asked to remember particularly in our prayers this year Mothers’ Union members in the Dioceses of Bukavu (Democratic Republic of the Congo), Nyahururu (Kenya), Gboko (Nigeria), New Guinea Islands, and also our own Diocese of Portsmouth.

Summer Tea Party

Branch outing

On Thursday the 22nd of June most of the members from St. George’s Mothers’ Union went to Emsworth for their annual summer outing.

We had a lovely meal at the cafe Hewitt’s which provides work opportunity for persons with special needs.

Feeling very full after our lunch we decided we should have a walk and headed off towards the millpond which provided us with a very pleasant walk in the afternoon sunshine, some of us also went shopping in quaint ‘not on the High Street’ shops.

We met back at the cars, we were going to reconvene at St James Church to celebrate the service of Compline.

It was a perfect way to end a lovely day and we also had a chance look round the church; this brought back memories for one of our members as two of her grandchildren were christened here.

Fiona Ross

On Thursday afternoon, 20th July, St George’s Waterlooville branch welcomed friends from neighbouring Mothers’ Union branches and other local churches to their “Summer of Hope” Tea Party. About 35 ladies enjoyed a table word-quiz, browsed at the Bring and Buy stall and tried their luck with the raffle and a Treasure Hunt.

Norma and Diane had a large table filled with MU Merchandise, including a variety of cards suitable for every occasion and the new 2018 MU Diaries.

Then all helped themselves to a buffet tea of sandwiches, savouries and cakes, together with cups of tea or coffee.

A total of £94.50 was raised.
