Church Shop fortnight, 14th - 26th November

The premises we had been “lent” this year was next to the Sue Ryder shop, near to the Cannon. This was smaller than in previous years which meant we were unable to display any larger items of furniture. However it was on two floors, was carpeted and had a loo and sink.

We had an upstairs department with clothes, bags and linen, and downstairs we sold china, glass and cookware, some smaller pieces of furniture, a table of new toys and games and an alcove of books, DVD’s & CD’s, and “Christmassy” things. Pictures we hung on the walls.

New stock was added as needed during the two weeks so there were always new items for customers to browse through and hopefully buy!

A total of £3,100 before gift aid was raised for Church funds.

Advent Carol Service

St George’s Advent Carol Service took place on the evening of Sunday 27th November.

This lovely service of beautiful readings, prayers and carols, interspersed with choral music: a perfect introduction to the inspirational season of Advent.

St George’s Church Christmas Bazaar

Our Christmas Bazaar was held on Saturday 3rd December in the Church Hall.

There were stalls including cakes, crafts and knitting, bric-a-brac, chutneys and preserves, “guess weight of Christmas cake”, a chocolate tombola, large tombola and a raffle.

There was even an appearance by Fr Christmas himself!

I helped on the bookstall, selling DVD’s & CD’s as well as books. We only made a modest £27 (people are always more interested in the other stalls at the Bazaar) but our small amount contributed to the total £1,497.65 we raised; a very creditable amount in these difficult times.

Meridian Winds Christmas Concert, December 3rd

Don Lloyd conducted the Meridian Winds for their Christmas Concert held in St George’s Church.

Beginning with a medley from Oklahoma and including well known carols and Christmas songs, with a half time interval serving hot drinks and mince pies and a raffle, this was a very pleasant afternoon of music.

Bereavement Group Christmas Coffee Morning

Our Bereavement Group Christmas Coffee Morning held in St George’s Church Hall on Monday 12th December was very well attended.

As well as serving teas, coffees and a large variety of small cakes, delicious bacon and vegetable sausages in baps were available.

There were stalls and a large raffle. Entertainment was provided by the Pompey Pluckers Ukelele Group who sang and played for us.

We were also pleased to welcome to our gathering the Mayor of Havant, Councillor Diana Patrick and her Consort.
