Sunday School News

On Remembrance Sunday, the children created poppy wreaths using round bases and stick-on shapes. For the first time, they were able to lay their poppy wreaths at the Lych Gate along with those from the Services. In participating in this way, it helped to underline the importance and solemnity of the occasion.  

For the Feast of Christ The King, the children made a crown each richly decorated with stick on gems. Something they greatly enjoyed – (stickers are very popular!) We learned that Jesus is King above all Kings and thought about the comparison between earthly Kings and our Lord Jesus.

As a ‘extra’ this year, as part of our intention to become an ‘Eco Church’ the children all decorated a ‘gingerbread man’ shape to be put on the large card for everyone to sign, children, of course, included. If you ask, the children will be pleased to point out which ‘gingerbread man’ is ‘theirs’.

This is written during Advent and the children are busy rehearsing for their Nativity Play to be presented at the 10 o’clock Eucharist on 18th December. Our thanks again go to Sheila Howard for creating the short presentation of the Nativity Story. When not rehearsing, the children are involved in some Christmas Craft, including Nativity story wheels, Advent calendars and tree decorations.
