There will be many in our congregation who know Margaret Buckland, Janet Johnson’s sister, who was a regular worshipper at St George’s when staying with John and Janet on holiday.
In 2002 she was diagnosed with leukaemia, and spent the last twenty years of her life fighting this dreadful disease. With the treatment suppressing the leukaemia having stopped working, she was due to start a new and more invasive treatment at the beginning of this year, but became seriously ill just before the treatment was due to commence, and passed away at the Conquest Hospital in Hastings on 15th January.
The funeral and service of thanksgiving for her life took place at Sedlescombe in East Sussex on 28th February. For the Order of Service, Janet wrote this poem:
Remember me with kindness this short while,
Of happy times that make you smile.
Forget the sadness and the pain,
These I will never feel again.
No illness now can trouble me,
From fear and dread forever free.
So kiss me twice, and do not cry,
One kiss for Love, one kiss to say Goodbye
