Following the Harvest Festival service on 1st October, a lunch was arranged with Tony and Jane Rice-Oxley as Guests of Honour, to mark and acknowledge their enormous service and contribution to St George’s over decades going back to 1971.
Tony Shepherd spoke and reminded everyone of endless activities in which they have been involved and led, ranging from Churchwarden and PCC, leading Christmas revues and pantomimes, taking the Youth Club on holiday on a canal boat, organising the Church Shop, the Waterlooville Music Festival; the list just went on and on.
They have been stalwart supporters of St George’s News, regularly contributing articles, Tony with the Who am I? and Jane with the Crossword (fortunately we have an on-going supply of her Crosswords for future editions), Tony as Advertising Manager, the list of all they have done is endless.
Their move to Eastleigh is a sad loss for St George’s but we hope and expect that we will continue to see them visiting us for services and other occasions from time to time.
