Mary Sumner Day Service, Saturday 9th August

Our Mothers’ Union Mary Sumner Day Service this year was held at the beautiful Holy Trinity Church, Blendworth, led by the Rev Joy Windsor, Priest in Charge of the United Benefice of Blendworth with St Michael & All Angels Chalton, St Hubert’s Idsworth and Horndean Missioner.

It took as its theme “Faith in Action”.

Our hymns included Abide With Me – Mary Sumner’s favourite.

There were readings from Revelation 14 and St Matthew and during the service a new member was admitted

The new 2026 MU Diaries were on sale and this year’s selection of Christmas cards. Refreshments were served afterwards in the small adjacent hall.

Remembrance event at Christ Church Portsdown

A special exhibition is being held at Christ Church Portsdown this year in the lead up to Remembrance Day. The opening ceremony is on Sunday 19th October at 4pm, and thereafter the exhibition is open from Monday 20th October to Tuesday 11th November, 10am to 3pm (except Sundays). Come and find out about the different poppies, visit the military cemetery at Christ Church, learn how Christ Church became a Garrison Church, listen to childhood stories from the war, discover what animals supported the war effort, and enjoy some light refreshments.

Every day, there will be a lunchtime activity from 12-2pm, which will include craft activities, recitals, talks and many other sessions.

This is a free entry event, but donations are welcome towards the church and remembrance organisations.
